Big Brother Naija housemate Koyin has opened up about his real age, sharing how industry pressures led him to officially adopt a younger “modeling age.”
During a casual conversation with fellow housemates Gigi and Ivatar, Gigi asked if he was 21, prompting Koyin to reveal the backstory behind his official records.
“Let me tell you something about my age,” Koyin began. “I have two ages my modeling age and my original age. When I joined my agency in 2021, they told me modeling is just like football. They said if I wanted to stay long in the game, age would be a factor. So, they deducted three years from my real age.”
He clarified that while his modeling profile reflects a younger age, he will actually be turning 25 on August 19.
Koyin’s revelation draws attention to the widespread issue of age manipulation in Nigeria and other African countries, where individuals particularly in sports and entertainment often alter their official ages to meet industry demands or extend career opportunities.
Critics have long blamed the persistence of this practice on the failure of key institutions tasked with enforcing accurate identity records, including civil registries and sports governing bodies.
Experts say that until these systems are strengthened and consistently enforced, age falsification will continue to undermine transparency and fairness across various sectors.
