“I Knew It Was Special, But Not This Big”- Wizkid Reflects On Making Iconic Hit ‘Ojuelegba’

Afrobeats superstar Wizkid has opened up about the story behind one of his most iconic songs, “Ojuelegba,” revealing that he never imagined the track would achieve the global recognition it later gained.

The singer explained that creating “Ojuelegba” was a unique experience because it came during a major transition period in his career. According to Wizkid, the song was recorded while he was still signed to Empire Mates Entertainment (EME), shortly before he moved on to a new chapter in his musical journey.

Reflecting on the creative process, Wizkid said he was in a completely different mindset when he made the song and immediately felt that it carried something special. However, he admitted that he never predicted the level of success and international impact it would eventually achieve.

“It was crazy making Ojuelegba because it’s a song I made in my last album before I left EME records. I was in a totally different space when I made that song. I knew that song was special, but I didn’t know it’s gonna be so big the way it is,” he said.
