“I Never Rejected The Offer To Be Atiku’s VP” – Peter Obi Breaks Silence On 2027 Alliance Talk

NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi has denied reports that he rejected an offer to become former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s running mate ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Obi made the clarification during a recent interview on Arise TV while responding to questions surrounding the opposition alliance and reports that he had turned down the opportunity to serve as Atiku’s vice-presidential candidate.

According to him, there was no formal offer for him to reject because he was not even in a political position where such an arrangement was being proposed.

He said, “Who said so? Where? I wasn’t even in any party where that offer was on the table. I wasn’t even in a position where it was being offered and I refused.”

Obi also stressed that discussions about a possible opposition alliance should not be framed as a personal negotiation between him and Atiku, noting that political parties would have to determine any arrangement.

His comments come amid renewed discussions over opposition cooperation ahead of the 2027 general election, with some Nigerians calling for Obi and Atiku to work together against President Bola Tinubu.

While some supporters backed Obi’s position, others questioned why the proposed alliance did not materialise and asked what eventually happened between the two politicians.
