According to a video posted on Al Jazeera, on Wednesday June 17, 2026, President Trump criticized major US news outlets, including the New York Times and CNN, accusing them of unfair coverage of the recent conflict with Iran regardless of the outcome.
He made the remark while responding to a question about how he planned to convince a skeptical American public that the new agreement represented a genuine victory.
Trump argued that even if Iran had fully surrendered, certain outlets would still find a way to frame the result negatively for the United States.
He cited an earlier example, saying the same outlets had declined to report when Iran’s navy was destroyed during the conflict.
He said outlets outside the mainstream US media, including international press, had covered the agreement more favorably.
In his words, Donald Trump said, “If they raised the white flag of surrender and said, praise be to Allah, Donald Trump is the greatest president ever, we totally concede, this war is over, we have failed, the New York Times and CNN and a couple of others would say Iran had a great victory.
“When we knocked out their last ship, when we knocked out the last one, the Times refused to do a story on it,” he said.
