Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has sparked conversation online after sharing her candid opinions on relationships, financial responsibility, and the label often attached to women who expect support from their partners.
During a recent interview, the 59-year-old movie star dismissed the popular term “gold digger,” questioning why some men use it to criticize women who desire financial security in a relationship.
Bukky Wright, who recently opened up about her decision to leave Nigeria years ago, said she strongly disagrees with men who describe women as gold diggers.
“I hate it when I hear men calling women gold diggers. What do you expect her to dig? Sh*t? No, I won’t… I won’t advise any woman to dig anything less than gold,” she said.
The actress further stated that men should naturally understand the role they are expected to play in relationships, especially when it comes to providing support for their partners.
According to her, a woman should not always have to request financial assistance before receiving help from the man she is dating.
When asked whether men who are unable to financially support a woman should refrain from entering relationships, Wright responded without hesitation.
“Then don’t! Don’t date if you cannot afford it! Or you date according to your level,” she said.
Her remarks have since generated mixed reactions on social media, with many debating her views on dating, financial expectations, and the responsibilities of both partners in a relationship.
