Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ifelodun Local Government have reaffirmed their unwavering support for the emergence of Rt. Hon. Salihu Danladi Yakubu as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 Kwara State governorship election, describing him as the rightful and duly elected flagbearer of the party.
The position was reached at a stakeholders’ meeting held on Tuesday in Ifelodun Local Government, where party leaders, elected officials, appointees, ward executives, youth leaders, women leaders, and other critical stakeholders reviewed recent developments within the party following the APC governorship primary election.
In a communique issued at the end of the meeting, the stakeholders dissociated the local government chapter of the party from a recent press conference organized by some individuals under the banner of the Kwara State APC Elders Caucus, where allegations of imposition were levelled against the emergence of Rt. Hon. Salihu Danladi Yakubu.
The stakeholders maintained that APC Ifelodun Local Government neither authorized nor endorsed any individual to represent the local government at the said press conference, stressing that those who attended did so in their personal capacities and not on behalf of the party structure in Ifelodun.
According to the stakeholders, the governorship primary election that produced Rt. Hon. Salihu Danladi Yakubu was conducted in accordance with the constitution of the party, approved guidelines, and established electoral procedures governing the conduct of direct primaries among registered party members across the state.
They emphasized that the process was transparent, inclusive, credible, and fair to all aspirants, noting that every contestant was provided equal opportunity to participate in the exercise.
“The emergence of Rt. Hon. Salihu Danladi Yakubu was not an imposition but the outcome of a democratic process freely participated in by party members across Kwara State. The result reflected the collective will of APC members and remains a true expression of internal democracy within our great party,” the communique stated.
The stakeholders further described the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly as a tested, experienced, and competent leader whose political track record, legislative accomplishments, and commitment to progressive governance make him well-positioned to lead the party into victory in 2027.
They noted that his emergence represents a significant opportunity for unity, inclusiveness, and the continued growth of the APC in Kwara State, while also reflecting the principles of fairness and political balance that have continued to strengthen the party over the years.
While acknowledging that political contests often generate varying opinions, the stakeholders appealed to all aggrieved members and aspirants to embrace reconciliation and place the collective interest of the party above individual ambitions.
They urged party leaders and members across the state to avoid actions and statements capable of creating division within the APC at a time when unity and strategic engagement are most needed ahead of future electoral contests.
According to them, this is a period that demands cooperation, maturity, and collective commitment toward strengthening the APC and consolidating the achievements of the party under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The meeting therefore called on all APC members, supporters, and stakeholders across Kwara State to rally behind Rt. Hon. Salihu Danladi Yakubu and work together to secure victory for the party in the 2027 governorship election.
The stakeholders concluded by appealing to all aggrieved party faithful to adopt dialogue, consultation, and internal dispute resolution mechanisms in addressing grievances, rather than engaging in public confrontations capable of undermining party unity and public confidence.
They reaffirmed their loyalty to the APC, their confidence in the integrity of the governorship primary election, and their total support for Rt. Hon. Salihu Danladi Yakubu as the duly emerged and rightful governorship candidate of the party for the 2027 election.
