Austin Okai, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has called on Igbo leaders to caution the senator representing Abia North, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, following his comment on the ongoing xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
DAILY POST reports that while the upper legislative chamber was deliberating on the disturbing attacks in South Africa, Orji Kalu warned lawmakers against destroying the bilateral relationship between the two African nations.
While other senators warned that if the heinous attack were sustained, Nigerians will retaliate through South African companies, Orji Kalu said “let us not kill our relationship with South Africa”.
He accused Senators of expressing anger on the matter for wanting to be seen on television.
Reacting, Okai in post on Facebook, pointed out that Kalu’s kindred are even more affected in the xenophobic attack.
He wrote, “Why is Orji Kalu acting this way? His own people are the primary victims of these barbaric and evil xenophobic attacks in South Africa, yet he seems blinded by selfish interests. It is hard to believe. Are there no leaders in Igbo land who can caution him?
“I have far more respect for the likes of Senator Ningi, Oshiomhole, and others. Kalu really failed here. I raised this issue on TV two weeks ago, and I am glad it is finally gaining the attention it deserves”.
