President Tinubu, on 1 June, held a stakeholders meeting with the three ethnic nationalities in Abuja to address the lingering crisis over ward delineation in the constituency.
Michael Johnny, an All Progressive Congress (APC) chieftain in Delta State, lauded President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for their interventions in resolving the ward delineation issues in Warri Federal Constituency.
Mr Johnny gave the commendation at a news conference on Tuesday in Warri.
The Ijaw leader and a member of the constituency expressed gratitude to Mr Tinubu for facilitating dialogue among the three ethnic nationalities: the Ijaw, Urhobo and Itsekiri.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that President Tinubu, on 1 June, held a stakeholders meeting with the three ethnic nationalities in Abuja to address the lingering crisis over ward delineation in the constituency.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted wards delineation in the Warri Federal Constituency following the Supreme Court judgement and consequently released its final reports on the exercise on 21 May in Asaba.
Mr Johnny also praised Governor Oborevwori for convening peace meetings to foster unity and understanding among the ethnic nationalities in Warri.
He described the governor as a grassroots leader who appreciated the importance of peaceful coexistence for development.
The APC chieftain also commended the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, for his efforts in strengthening ties with neighbouring kingdoms, describing the move as a significant step toward reconciliation and harmony among the people.
He said the people of Warri had embraced peace and were more concerned with addressing poverty, underdevelopment, and other socio-economic challenges than with engaging in ethnic conflicts.
“Our problem is not among ourselves. Our challenge is poverty and underdevelopment. That is what we should all be confronting together.
“We appreciate President Tinubu’s efforts in restoring peace. We will continue to support initiatives that promote stability, economic growth and national development,” he said.
Mr Johnny maintained that stakeholders from the three ethnic nationalities had accepted the resolutions reached during the consultations facilitated by President Tinubu and the relevant authorities.
He disclosed that representatives of the ethnic groups had subsequently drafted and submitted a report reflecting the consensus reached.
According to him, political stakeholders are already preparing for the next phase of electoral activities as directed by INEC.
He expressed confidence that the peaceful atmosphere created by the interventions of President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori would encourage greater participation in the democratic process.
Mr Johnny, however, called on traditional rulers in the constituency to continue working together and guiding their subjects toward peaceful co-existence, stressing that no community benefits from violence and conflict.
