Nigerian street-hop singer Portable has stirred reactions online after turning down TikTok star Peller’s invitation to his upcoming wedding, arguing that someone of his status deserves a more respectful approach than a phone call.
The exchange, which took place in a private direct message conversation, showed Peller personally reaching out to the singer and expressing his desire to have him attend the ceremony as one of his special guests.
Peller said:
“Omolalomi, we’re specially inviting you to our wedding. We need someone like you in our wedding because you’re a star.”
Portable was unimpressed by the invitation and reminded Peller that he had supported him long before he became famous.
The singer maintained that Peller should have visited him in person with his fiancée to extend the invitation, adding that he considers himself an elder brother who deserves such respect. He also pointed out that he is a professional musician whose appearances come at a cost.
According to Portable:
“You’re a spoilt child. Is it not you, Habeeb, that I built? I was among the people that posted you so people could know you. Normally, you and your wife are supposed to bring the cloth to my house and specially greet me as the father-in-law. I’m your elder brother.
“Number two, if you want me there, I’m a superstar, a musician. Use money call me. August 1, me sef get show wey them don pay money, so should I now come to your wedding for free? And your wedding looks like a political rally, like protest. Both sane and insane people will be there because you’re selling the Aso-Ebi for both normal and abnormal people.”
Portable further disclosed that he already has a paid performance scheduled for August 1, the same day as Peller’s wedding, making it impossible for him to attend without turning down an existing commitment.
The conversation has since gone viral across social media platforms, triggering mixed reactions from fans. While some agreed with Portable’s stance that a personal visit would have been more respectful, others felt the singer’s response was unnecessary and overly harsh.
