Media personality Denrele Edun has shared an emotional tribute to late Nollywood star Alexx Ekubo, opening up about their last conversation and the painful reality of losing someone he considered a dear friend.
Taking to social media, Denrele revealed that he recently replayed the final voice message Alexx sent to him, admitting that he is still finding it difficult to come to terms with the actor’s passing.
What struck him the most, he said, was the fact that Alexx was reaching out to check on him and offer encouragement, even while quietly dealing with struggles of his own.
Reflecting on their journey together, Denrele recalled meeting Alexx for the first time during the 2010 Mr Nigeria competition, where the actor emerged as the first runner-up. He described him as a focused and hardworking young man who was determined to build a successful career in the entertainment industry.
The television personality also reminisced about working alongside Alexx on a movie set in Port Harcourt towards the end of last year. According to him, although the actor appeared physically weak at the time, he remained upbeat and continued to spread positivity among cast and crew members.
Denrele noted that Alexx often used humour to lighten tense moments on set, helping to keep everyone motivated whenever challenges arose during production.
Sharing more personal memories, he spoke about the affectionate nicknames Alexx gave to those close to him. While the actor called him “Rele,” he would also fondly refer to him as “Nne” during their conversations.
As thoughts turned to Alexx’s burial, Denrele said he finds solace in imagining the late actor reunited with his longtime friend, Goldie Harvey. He pictured them together once again, sharing laughter and creating happy memories beyond this life.
The heartfelt tribute has resonated with fans and colleagues alike, many of whom described it as a touching reflection of Alexx Ekubo’s generous spirit, compassion, and the lasting impression he left on those who knew him.

And that’s the part I’m struggling with.
Because while he was carrying battles I knew nothing about, he still found the strength to reach out and comfort me.

And then Alexx walked to us, Frail looking but pacifying everyone.
