A 41-year-old Indian-origin man, Kiran Netha Pasunuri, has been charged with attempting to murder his toddler, who was admitted to the hospital with grievous injuries, in North Carolina. Two days after the arrest, the father was charged with two counts of felony intentional child abuse, inflicting serious injury, and two counts of felony negligent child abuse, inflicting serious bodily injury.According to the warrants, Pasunuri is accused of attempting to kill the child during the June 2 incident, during which he allegedly caused life-threatening injuries to the child’s skull. Court records show Pasunuri was not given bond on the attempted murder charge. He made his first appearance in Wake County court on all the charges against him on Monday and is scheduled to return on July 20.The child suffered from a massive subdural hematoma and hemorrhaging of the retinas after the attack. Surgeons had to remove a portion of the child’s skull. The toddler also suffered from compression fractures to several vertebrae. Compression fractures occur when a break in the vertebra causes it to collapse, according to the Cleveland Clinic. It is not known what happened between the father and the toddler and why the father injured his child. But doctors confirmed that medical care was sought after a long delay and a lot of time lapsed between the initial injury and the child’s hospitalization.
