The Independent National Electoral Commission has shifted the release of access codes to political parties for the upload of nominated candidates’ names for the 2027 general election to Monday, June 29.
The commission had initially planned to release the access codes on Friday, June 26, but sources within INEC and political parties said the exercise was moved to Monday to ensure a smooth upload process.
INEC had earlier released the necessary nomination forms to political parties ahead of the opening of the nomination portal.
A source at the commission said the only outstanding step was for political parties to upload the completed forms to the INEC portal once the access codes are released.
“What is outstanding now is for the political parties to upload all the various forms to the access code when it is released to them. The political parties have been given the forms that would be filled, but the access code on where it would be uploaded has not been released until Monday,” the source said.
The portal is expected to open for the submission of candidates for the presidential and National Assembly elections, with political parties required to upload Forms EC9 and EC9A-E online.
It was gathered that the Peoples Democratic Party, led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, had on Wednesday presented certificates of return to its nominated candidates and issued them the necessary INEC forms.
At the presentation, the party ratified the outcomes of its primaries for presidential, governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and State Houses of Assembly candidates for the 2027 general election.
Each candidate was also reportedly directed to complete and return the INEC nomination forms within 72 hours to enable the party to commence the upload process once the nomination portal becomes accessible.
The release of the access codes is expected to mark the next major step in the formal submission of candidates by political parties ahead of the 2027 general election.
