The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun training state coordinating supervisors for its Electoral Operations Support Centre (EOSC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The training will focus on faster reporting, verification, and escalation of incidents from the field.
INEC, in a statement on its X handle on Wednesday, said the Training of Trainers programme was designed to prepare the supervisors to coordinate EOSC operations and train personnel who will provide operational support during the elections.
The Deputy Director, Operations, Jibril B. Mohammed, who spoke on behalf of the Director of Electoral Operations, Isa Magaji, said the EOSC would provide the commission with timely information on developments during the elections.
He said the centre would enable operational challenges involving electoral personnel, materials, processes and voters to be reported and escalated for appropriate action.
“Every report represents a situation affecting people,” Mohammed quoted Magaji as saying, stressing that every call or dashboard entry represents a field situation requiring appropriate attention and response.
Magaji said accurate and timely reporting would be central to the incident management process, with reports expected to state what happened, where and when it occurred, the action already taken and the current status of the incident.
He said the training would cover EOSC responsibilities, reporting procedures, information verification, incident escalation and follow-up processes.
Magaji also stressed the need for clear communication when dealing with field officers, particularly during incidents that require quick intervention.
He said participants would be responsible for transferring the knowledge gained from the training to personnel at the state level ahead of the 2027 elections.
The training is part of INEC’s preparations to strengthen its system for receiving, verifying and responding to operational incidents during the elections.
