A UK-based Nigerian man has sparked reactions online after comparing petrol prices in Nigeria with the cost of fuel in the United Kingdom.
The man made his comments in a video that has gone viral on X (formerly Twitter), where he reacted to Nigerians protesting over the rising cost of petrol.
According to him, petrol sells for about ₦1,300 per litre in Nigeria, a price he believes Nigerians should appreciate rather than protest against.
He compared the situation with fuel prices in the UK, claiming that he recently complained after paying £2.09 per litre, only for the price to rise to £2.10.
He said:
“Fuel is ₦1,300 in Nigeria, you people are shouting, protesting. Last two weeks, I was complaining that fuel is £2.09, now it’s £2.10. Una no know wetin God do for una wey dey Nigeria. Instead of you people to be thanking Jagagban (Tinubu). That man dey try for una, he too dey try for una.”
His remarks come amid renewed concerns over petrol prices in Nigeria. Reports from September 2026 indicated that pump prices had climbed to around ₦1,400 to ₦1,450 per litre in some major cities, including Lagos.
The comparison has since generated mixed reactions online, with Nigerians weighing in on the differences in fuel prices, wages and the broader cost of living in Nigeria and the UK.
