Iran is celebrating its victory over the US and Israel after Donald Trump announced a peace deal had been agreed upon. State TV broadcasts have been praising Tehran’s military for “forcing” the US President and his delegation to bring the nearly four-month conflict to an end.
Network News (Khabar TV) said last night: “The Islamic Republic of Iran has officially forced the American-Zionist enemy to end the war on all fronts.” This comes after Mr Trump announced on Sunday that the protracted peace process had come to an end, bringing with it the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
He wrote on Truth Social: “The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete.
“Congratulations to all! I hereby fully authorise the toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorise the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade.
“Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
Pakistan said that the agreement will be officially signed on Friday in Switzerland.
The specific points of the agreement are yet to be confirmed by either country, though Iranian state media has detailed the draft of a 14-point memorandum of understanding.
This includes the lifting of the US naval blockade within 30 days and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz within 30 days “under Iranian arrangements”.
Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, was 3.8% lower at $84.02 (£62.48) a barrel, while US-traded oil was down 4.1% at $81.40 (£60.57).
The US President claimed to have succeeded where other leaders have failed, again emphasising that “oil will flow” around the world again.
