Iran’s FM says peace MoU with U.S. “has never been closer”

TEHRAN, June 12 (Xinhua) — Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said on Friday a Pakistani-mediated memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States on ending the war “has never been closer.”

In a post on social media platform X, Araghchi urged the media to refrain from speculation before the MoU’s finalization.

“The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has never been closer. Pending its finalization, the media should refrain from entering speculation about its content,” he said.

Araghchi added that “all details will be shared with the public in due course.”

U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday that the United States had “just made a great settlement of the war with Iran,” with an agreement expected to be signed “over the next few days.”

However, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei told state-run IRIB TV on Thursday that while the MoU’s text was largely finalized, Washington’s “contradictory” positions had repeatedly disrupted the diplomatic process.

Baghaei noted that Iranian authorities were reviewing the MoU’s text in detail, and would announce a conclusion officially.
