Is TECNO’s CAMON Slim the future of smartphones?

At IFA 2026 in Berlin, TECNO is showcasing the CAMON Slim, a 6.39 mm ultra-slim smartphone that combines a 3D-curved unibody design, a 50MP Sony LYTIA 600 Ultra Night Camera, practical AI features, and an AI mood lighting system.

Smartphones have become remarkably powerful, but they have also become increasingly familiar. Year after year, the industry adds faster processors, larger batteries, improved cameras, and more AI features. Yet for many users, the basic shape of the smartphone has changed very little. TECNO believes there is still room to rethink that experience.

The question is whether slimness could become more than a design trend. For many years, smartphone innovation has largely been measured through specifications. More megapixels. More battery capacity. More processing power.

But as smartphones become increasingly capable, design is returning to the conversation. A device that is powerful but uncomfortable to hold does not necessarily provide a better everyday experience. The same applies to a smartphone packed with features that feels heavy in a pocket or awkward in the hand. This is where the TECNO CAMON Slim comes in.

TECNO’s approach is not simply to make the phone thinner. The challenge is to create a slim device without making it feel incomplete.

The TECNO CAMON Slim retains a camera system designed for expressive photography, particularly in low-light situations, while also incorporating AI features intended to support everyday use. Its curved unibody design also gives the device a more fluid and fashion-conscious appearance.

At IFA, TECNO is showcasing the phone as part of a wider exploration of how smartphone design could evolve.

TECNO is also showcasing its Next-Gen Bezel-less Concept Phone, a prototype featuring an industry-first 0mm visible display border. The concept is not the same as the CAMON Slim, but it points to a broader philosophy within TECNO: some of the smartphone’s most established physical features may still be open to redesign.

The bezel-less concept attempts to remove the final visible black border around a smartphone display through structural re-engineering and new display packaging techniques.

The TECNO CAMON Slim explores a different question: how far can smartphone thinness go while retaining the features users have come to expect?

Both ideas imply that the future of smartphones may be more about refining what exists than adding more. That could mean thinner bodies. Cleaner displays. Better integration between design and function.

Of course, a concept is different from a commercial product. TECNO’s next-gen bezel-less concept phone remains in the validation stage, with no confirmed commercialization timeline.

The CAMON Slim, however, is a mass-market product. That distinction is important. It means TECNO is not only discussing what the future could look like, but also attempting to bring part of that design conversation into a device intended for everyday users.

The CAMON Slim raises an intriguing possibility. Perhaps the next major change in smartphones will not come from a single new feature. It may come from a renewed focus on how technology looks, feels, and fits into people’s lives. After years of smartphones becoming more powerful, the industry may now be asking a different question.
