Pakistan is gearing up to host US and Iranian delegations in the capital, Islamabad, for ceasefire negotiations aimed at ending the US-Israeli war on Iran.
The US delegation, led by Vice President JD Vance, is set to take off from Washington today, replacing previous negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who had led talks prior to the US-Israeli attack on 28 February. Both are expected to be part of the delegation.
Iran’s delegation is expected to be led by Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, although previous reports on their arrival have since been denied by Iranian media.
Meanwhile, Lebanon and Israel are set to have direct negotiations in the US following a harrowing Israeli massacre on Wednesday that killed over 300 people nationwide.
Peace negotiations between the two sides come as fighting between the Israeli army and Hezbollah in the country’s south continues, with heavy fighting reported around the town of Bint Jbeil.
