Israel continued to attack southern Lebanon on Saturday despite the two countries agreeing to extend a ceasefire for 45 days just hours earlier.
At least six people were killed, including three paramedics, and 22 were wounded in an Israeli strike on a civil defence centre in the town of Harouf, the country’s state news agency said early Saturday.
Israel and Lebanon agreed to extend the truce on Friday following two days of talks in Washington, which US and Israeli officials are using to pressure Beirut to forcibly disarm Hezbollah.
The truce “will be extended by 45 days to enable further progress,” State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said.
Meanwhile in London, hundreds of thousands of protesters are expected to march in the city on Saturday to commemorate the 78th anniversary of the Nakba and call for an end to attacks on Gaza. A counterprotest led by the far-right is also set to take place.
