The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the full restoration of the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) after it was temporarily unavailable for 96 hours.
The Board said the platform was fully restored on Sunday, 27th September 2026 and is now operational.
It regretted the inconvenience the disruption may have caused candidates, tertiary institutions and other stakeholders, noting that it recognises the importance of CAPS to the admission process and appreciates the patience and understanding shown during the period.
JAMB explained that the temporary unavailability was due to an administrative challenge involving its hosting organisation and had earlier assured that it was working with relevant service providers to restore and stabilise the platform.
With the restoration now completed, the Board urged institutions to immediately accelerate their admission processes to recover lost time and ensure compliance with the deadlines agreed at the 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions.
At the policy meeting, stakeholders agreed that admissions for the 2026/2027 academic session should be concluded on or before 31st October 2026 for public universities, on or before 30th November 2026 for private universities and on or before 31st December 2026 for other tertiary institutions.
The Board stressed that the 31st October deadline for public universities remains sacrosanct and that all admissions are expected to be concluded by 31st December 2026.
Following the recent release of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination results by the National Examinations Council ( NECO) JAMB particularly urged universities, especially public universities, to intensify their admission processes to meet the October deadline.
It said private universities should work towards concluding admissions by 30th November to allow other categories of institutions sufficient time to complete theirs by the end of December.
The Board assured that as institutions accelerate their processes, it will match the pace through prompt consideration and approval of recommendations submitted through CAPS, while candidates were advised to promptly accept admission offers made to them.
Candidates who were awaiting their NECO results were also advised to immediately upload or verify their results to ensure their credentials are available for consideration as institutions intensify admissions.
JAMB added that beyond the immediate restoration, it is putting in place medium to long-term redundancy and business-continuity measures to further strengthen the resilience, stability and reliability of CAPS, reduce dependence on any single hosting or service environment and minimise the risk and impact of future disruptions.
The Board said it remains committed to building systems that work reliably for the people it serves and that lessons from the incident will be applied to improve the overall admission experience.
