Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is reportedly in talks to join a consortium led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia that is seeking to acquire a minority stake in Premier League club Liverpool.

According to reports, Bezos has held preliminary discussions about joining the investment group, although no decision has been made on whether he will participate in the proposed deal.

Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), confirmed on Tuesday that Bhatia’s consortium had approached the club over the purchase of a minority stake.

If completed, the deal is expected to mirror FSG’s 2023 sale of a minority stake in the club to investment firm Dynasty.

Reports say the proposed investment would value Liverpool at more than $6 billion.

Bezos, whose fortune is estimated by Forbes at about $257 billion (£192 billion), has previously explored bids for NFL franchises, including the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders, but did not proceed with either acquisition.

Bhatia’s move comes shortly after he stepped down from the board of Championship side Queens Park Rangers, ending an 18-year association with the club after transferring his stake to majority owner Ruben Gnanalingam.

Fenway Sports Group acquired Liverpool in 2010 for £300 million and has since overseen one of the club’s most successful periods, including Premier League and UEFA Champions League triumphs.
