Former Portugal midfielder, Jose Luis Vidigal, has criticised Cristiano Ronaldo’s explanation for leaving the national team camp ahead of their UEFA Nations League match against Denmark.
Vidigal maintained that Ronaldo’s statement did not adequately justify his conduct amid his recent dispute with head coach Jorge Jesus.
Speaking in a recent interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, the 53-year-old backed Jesus and suggested that Ronaldo had made a wrong decision that he would eventually regret.
“The coach did what he had to do. When Ronaldo took the return flight, I immediately thought he would regret what he was doing,” Vidigal said.
“The statement he made doesn’t justify many things; Jesus said he made a mistake, but to make him kneel, I think that is something that doesn’t exist anywhere,” he added.
