Chelsea have agreed a £52 million deal with Crystal Palace for the signing of French defender Maxence Lacroix.
The 26-year-old centre-back is undergoing a medical in London ahead of completing the move to Stamford Bridge, where he is expected to sign a six-year contract until June 2032.
Chelsea have been pursuing Lacroix since June as they seek to strengthen their defence ahead of the new campaign.
According to The Athletic, the Blues have been working to finalise the transfer after identifying Lacroix as one of their major defensive targets this summer.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Friday that an agreement had been reached between both Premier League clubs, with Palace accepting Chelsea’s official offer.
Romano wrote on X: “Maxence Lacroix to Chelsea, here we go! Agreement in place with official bid accepted by Crystal Palace.
“Broad terms in place last night and medical ongoing in London for the CB. £52m transfer fee. Axel Disasi not included in the deal. Lacroix signs until June 2032.”
Chelsea had considered several defensive options, including Como centre-back Jacobo Ramon, before focusing their attention on Lacroix following his impressive two seasons in the Premier League.
The Frenchman’s valuation has risen significantly since Palace signed him from Wolfsburg for €18 million in 2024.
Standing at 190cm, Lacroix established himself as a key figure at Palace, making 55 appearances across all competitions last season.
He also helped the Eagles lift the Community Shield and secure the Conference League trophy.
His performances at club level earned him a place in France’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace have started searching for a replacement for the defender, with Augsburg’s Chrislain Matsima among their targets and Trabzonspor’s Chibuike Nwaiwu identified as another option.
Lacroix’s expected arrival could also lead to changes within Chelsea’s defensive options, which currently include Benoit Badiashile, Tosin Adarabioyo, Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Chalobah and Mamadou Sarr.
Romano clarified that Axel Disasi is not part of the £52 million agreement between Chelsea and Palace.
