Delta State, Nigeria – The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspected vandals and recovered stolen electric cables during a security operation in Kwale, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, identified as Osakwe Sunday, 28, and Ekene Obocha, 34, were apprehended following a coordinated operation involving police officers and local vigilante members.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, SP Bright Edafe, the arrest was made after security operatives received credible intelligence about individuals allegedly vandalizing and stealing electric cables along the Ibabu–Ugiliamai Road.
Acting swiftly on the information, operatives were deployed to the area, where they intercepted the suspects. Police said the suspects attempted to escape upon sighting the security team but were eventually apprehended.
During the operation, stolen electric cables believed to have been removed from public infrastructure were recovered and taken into police custody as exhibits.
SP Edafe disclosed that one of the suspects sustained injuries while attempting to evade arrest and is currently receiving medical attention, while the second suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting critical public infrastructure and combating criminal activities across the state.
He warned individuals involved in vandalism and related crimes to desist or face the full weight of the law, stressing that the police would continue to intensify efforts to identify, arrest, and prosecute offenders.
