A video has surfaced showing retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, former Director of Defence Information, and his wife in captivity after they were abducted in Katsina State.
The footage, which has circulated across social media and security networks, is reportedly the first visual confirmation of the couple since their abduction along the Matazu axis. In the video, both victims appear under duress and are seen appealing for mercy and calling for their release. While no full transcript of their words has been independently verified, reports indicate that their statements were made under pressure in the presence of armed captors.

According to security sources, the abductors appear to be using the video as part of a negotiation strategy. There are also claims within local security circles that a known bandit figure, allegedly referred to as “Kachalla Maha,” may be linked to the ongoing discussions.
Emerging reports further suggest that the kidnappers may be demanding a prisoner exchange involving some detained associates in return for the release of the retired general and his wife.
The retired officer and his wife were reportedly abducted while travelling through the Matazu Local Government Area. Their driver is said to have escaped the attack with gunshot injuries, while the vehicle was later recovered by security operatives.
As of the time of this report, neither the Nigerian military nor the Katsina State Police Command has issued an updated official statement on the video or the condition of the abducted couple.
