The 37 worshippers abducted during coordinated attacks on churches in Ariko Community, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have now spent more than 75 days in captivity, with their abductors demanding ₦1 billion and 35 motorcycles for their release.
Community leaders disclosed that the kidnappers are insisting on the payment of 20 motorcycles commonly known as “Boko Haram” bikes and 15 Bajaj motorcycles in addition to the huge ransom demand.
According to officials of the Kuturmi Unity Development Association (KUDA), communication with the captors remains ongoing, but the community lacks the financial capacity to meet the demands.
The situation is said to be worsening, with reports indicating that some of the abductees have died in captivity, while a pregnant woman reportedly gave birth in the forest under harsh conditions.
The victims were kidnapped during attacks on churches in the community, an incident that also claimed several lives and left residents traumatized.
Community representatives have appealed to the Federal Government, Kaduna State Government, security agencies, and humanitarian organizations to intensify efforts to secure the release of the remaining captives.
The community also strongly rejected earlier reports suggesting that 31 of the abductees had been rescued by military personnel, describing the claims as inaccurate and misleading.
Families of the victims continue to express concern over the deteriorating condition of their loved ones, urging authorities to take urgent action before more lives are lost.
