Biography and Education
Ravech grew up in Needham, Massachusetts, and is Jewish. He played three sports at Needham High School and graduated in 1983. He earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Ithaca College in 1987 and a master’s degree in management and leadership from Binghamton University in 1990.
Career
Ravech worked as a sports anchor and reporter at WBNG-TV in Binghamton, New York, from 1987 to 1990. He then held a similar position at WHTM-TV in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, from 1990 to 1993.
Ravech worked for ESPN from 1993 to 2026, mainly appearing on SportsCenter and Baseball Tonight. He provided commentary for ESPN and ABC during the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He also covered the College World Series, golf, college basketball, and ESPN’s KBO League broadcasts in 2020. In addition, he appears as the Baseball Tonight host in the 2K Sports video game Major League Baseball 2K5. ESPN laid him off on July 21, 2026.
Personal life
After joining ESPN, Ravech and his wife moved to Avon, Connecticut. He had a heart attack in November 1998. His son Sam became the youngest play-by-play broadcaster on ESPN at age 22, after calling a Tulane men’s basketball game on November 22, 2017.
