The Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, has inaugurated a consensus committee of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to harmonise the interests of aspirants ahead of the party’s forthcoming primaries.
Speaking during the inauguration on Thursday, Idris said the committee was set up to engage party members who purchased nomination forms for various elective positions and work towards achieving consensus where possible.
He said the move aligns with the party’s commitment to internal cohesion, adding that consensus and direct primaries remain the recognised methods for selecting candidates under current electoral guidelines.
The governor expressed confidence that the APC in Kebbi State would successfully manage its internal processes, noting the party’s tradition of discipline and unity.
He charged members of the committee to reconcile aspirants, resolve disagreements, and ensure a smooth and acceptable outcome that strengthens the party ahead of the elections.
Members of the committee include Ambassador Saidu Nasamu Dakingari (Chairman), Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu Jarma, APC National Organising Secretary Alhaji Abubakar Kana Zuru, APC State Chairman Alhaji Abubakar Gari Mallam, and other senior party and government officials.
Others are Umar Idris Buro (Chief of Staff), Justice Suleiman Muhammad Ambursa (rtd), and Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, who serves as secretary.
In his remarks, the committee chairman, Saidu Nasamu Dakingari, thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to carry out the assignment with fairness and transparency.
He assured that the committee would work in the interest of the party and ensure a credible consensus process.
The development comes as the APC intensifies preparations for its primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
