The Federal Government has called on Nigerians living abroad to contribute their expertise and experience towards strengthening the country’s healthcare system, saying their knowledge and skills are critical to national development.

The appeal was made by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, who represented President Bola Tinubu at the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) 2026 National Diaspora Day Celebration held in Abuja on Friday.

Akume urged Nigerians in the diaspora to see themselves as key partners in the country’s development, particularly in the health sector, where their professional expertise can help improve access to quality healthcare.

“I call upon every Nigerian in the diaspora, to know that Nigeria your country needs you, whether you are a surgeon in London, a researcher in Boston, a lab scientist in China or a nurse in Johannesburg, your skills are vital in building a resilient, inclusive and world-class healthcare system in Nigeria,” he said.

He stressed that the government’s vision is to ensure that quality healthcare is accessible to all Nigerians regardless of their location or economic status.

“Together we can ensure that no Nigerian is denied quality healthcare because of geography or poverty. Together we can make our nation healthier, stronger and more prosperous,” Akume added.
