Kwankwaso, Obasanjo Meet In Kano Ahead Of 2027 Polls

The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his temporary residence in Kano State.

Kwankwaso was accompanied by the NDC governorship candidate in Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo.

The visit was confirmed by Kwankwaso’s media aide, Saifullahi Hassan, who described the meeting as cordial but did not disclose details of the discussions held behind closed doors.

Although neither party revealed the purpose of the meeting, it has generated political interest amid growing speculation over possible alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a post on X, Hassan said, “His Excellency, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, PhD, FNSE, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the NDC, last night paid a courtesy visit to elder statesman and former President of Nigeria, His Excellency Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, at his temporary residence in Kano.”

He added that Obasanjo, who is in Kano on an official assignment, used the opportunity to engage in warm exchanges and constructive discussions with Kwankwaso and Gwarzo.

Obasanjo and Kwankwaso have maintained a longstanding political relationship dating back to 2003, when the former president appointed Kwankwaso as Minister of Defence during his second term in office.
