In other news… Nollywood actor IK Ogbonna was overcome with emotion as he bid farewell to his close friend and colleague, Alex Ekubo, during his burial ceremony in Arochukwu, Abia State.

The late actor was laid to rest on Thursday, June 18, amid tears from family members, friends, colleagues, and fans who gathered to pay their final respects.

A day earlier, Alex Ekubo’s body had arrived at his father’s compound in Arochukwu, where a wake-keep was held in his honour. Several Nollywood stars, including Ini Edo, Mike Godson, Omoni Oboli, Ayo Makun, and IK Ogbonna, were present to celebrate his life and legacy.

In a video from the burial ceremony, IK Ogbonna was seen struggling to contain his emotions as the family performed the final “dust to dust, ashes to ashes” rites at the graveside.

The actor, who shared a friendship spanning more than a decade with the late Alex Ekubo, was visibly heartbroken and was seen pulling out a handkerchief to wipe away tears as the reality of the loss set in.

The emotional moment has touched many Nigerians online, with fans expressing sympathy for the actor and others close to the late movie star.

Alex Ekubo passed away on May 11, 2026, after reportedly battling cancer. He was 40 years old.

Before his burial, a Service of Songs was held in his honour on June 10 at the Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos, where colleagues and loved ones gathered to celebrate his life and contributions to the Nigerian film industry.
