The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled former chairman of Agege Local Government, Ganiyu Egunjobi, and Azeez Yusuf over alleged anti-party activities and disloyalty.
Egunjobi and Yusuf, who are allies of the Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, had contested the APC primary elections for Agege Constituency I and Agege Constituency II respectively, in the 2026 Lagos State House of Assembly nomination process but lost the party’s tickets.
The duo subsequently obtained tickets from another political party, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), instead of accepting the outcome of the APC primaries or seeking redress through the party’s internal mechanisms.
In a statement on Wednesday, Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, described the development as a violation of the obligations of party membership.
Ojelabi said the APC regarded their subsequent exit from the party as a belated attempt to avoid disciplinary action over their alleged conduct.
He said the party had invoked Article 9(5)(II) of the APC Constitution, as amended in 2022, to take disciplinary action against the two former members.
According to him, members who lose internal contests are expected to accept the outcome or pursue available avenues of redress rather than seek another political platform within the same electoral cycle.
“The APC is a political organisation governed by rules, regulations and constitutional obligations. While members are free to aspire to elective office, such aspirations must be pursued within the framework of the Party’s constitution and the applicable electoral laws.
“A member who loses an internal contest is expected to accept the outcome or pursue legitimate avenues of redress provided by the Party and the law-not to undermine the Party by seeking an alternative platform within the same electoral cycle.
“The Party has accordingly invoked the relevant provisions of Article 9(5)(II) of the APC Constitution (as amended in 2022) in taking disciplinary action against the two former members,” Ojelabi said.
The chairman also said the expulsion was particularly relevant to the 2026 electoral process, urging party members and the public to take note that Egunjobi and Yusuf no longer represented the Lagos APC.
He warned that neither individual was authorised to speak for, represent, negotiate on behalf of, or transact business with any person or organisation in the name of the Lagos APC.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy, discipline and adherence to its rules, saying it would continue to take steps to preserve its cohesion and credibility ahead of the forthcoming elections.
