Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Tijani, has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, DPOs, commanders of the Police Mobile Force, and other tactical units to intensify intelligence-driven policing and strengthen security surveillance across the state.
The directive was issued during a strategic security meeting held on Friday with senior officers of the command, according to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi.
The meeting focused on assessing the prevailing security situation in Lagos and reviewing the operational preparedness of various police formations to effectively tackle emerging threats.
During the session, Tijani instructed commanders to maintain close supervision of personnel under their authority and ensure swift responses to criminal activities and security concerns within their respective areas of responsibility.
He also emphasised the need for professionalism in the discharge of duties, urging senior officers to lead by example and uphold ethical standards while mentoring subordinate officers to do the same.
In a move aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and officer safety, the Lagos State Security Trust Fund donated 200 bulletproof vests and 200 bulletproof helmets to the command.
The security equipment was presented by the Executive Secretary of the Trust Fund, Dr Ayodele Ogunsan, who reiterated the organisation’s commitment to supporting security agencies in their efforts to protect residents and maintain public order.
Ogunsan noted that the donation would further strengthen the capacity of law enforcement personnel to effectively combat crime and safeguard lives and property across Lagos.
Responding, the Commissioner of Police expressed appreciation to the Trust Fund for its continued support and partnership in advancing security operations within the state.
Tijani said the protective gear would significantly enhance officers’ safety during field operations, boost their morale, and improve overall operational performance.
The police chief also commended Lagos residents for their cooperation with security agencies, particularly through the provision of credible and timely intelligence that has aided crime prevention and criminal investigations.
He called for sustained collaboration between the public and the police, assuring residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property.
Tijani further urged members of the public to remain security-conscious and promptly report suspicious persons, activities, or movements through the command’s designated emergency channels.
