The Lagos State Government has confirmed the arrest of a man who was captured in a viral video repeatedly be@ting a toddler for allegedly being unable to read.
The video had sparked outrage online, with many Nigerians calling for the man to be arrested and prosecuted over his treatment of the child.
Confirming the development, the Lagos State Domestic and S+xual Vi%lence Agency said the alleged perpetrator was apprehended on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, after the agency received a report and established contact with the child’s mother.
According to the agency, the matter had initially been reported to the Imota Police Station before it was escalated for further investigation.
“Following the report, the alleged perpetrator was apprehended on Wednesday, 23rd September, 2026, and is currently in police custody, as the matter has now been escalated for further investigation,” the agency stated.
It added that the child and her mother had been referred to the General Hospital for immediate medical attention and further assessment.
The development has since been welcomed by many Nigerians who had expressed concern after watching the viral footage.
