The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, has rescued all victims involved in a multiple-vehicle accident at Otedola Bridge, inward Berger, with no death recorded.
The crash occurred on Wednesday afternoon and involved five vehicles, including two trucks, a trailer, a white Honda car and a Lexus.
According to LASEMA, its LRT Tiger Squad stationed at C3 was mobilised at 1:18 p.m. after receiving a distress call and arrived at the scene approximately 10 minutes later.
The vehicles involved were a truck conveying a generator, a containerised truck with registration number ENU 135ZG, a loaded trailer with an unknown registration number, a white Honda bearing registration number LSR 870BF and a Lexus with registration number KTU 682HX.
Preliminary investigations at the scene indicated that the containerised truck suffered a mechanical failure while in motion, causing the driver to lose control and crash into three other vehicles.
Another truck subsequently collided with the vehicles, worsening the accident and resulting in a multiple-vehicle pile-up.
LASEMA said it immediately activated its emergency response protocol and assumed coordination of the operation in collaboration with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, and the Nigeria Police Force.
The responding agencies deployed traffic management and safety measures to secure the area, prevent further collisions and protect other motorists.
LASEMA paramedics administered emergency treatment to the affected victims at the scene before evacuating them to the Trauma Centre for further medical attention.
The agency said recovery efforts were still ongoing, with private towing vehicles and a crane deployed to remove the damaged vehicles and facilitate the restoration of normal traffic movement.
The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, commended the emergency responders and other agencies involved in the operation for their prompt intervention.
Oke-Osanyintolu urged motorists, particularly operators of heavy-duty and articulated vehicles, to ensure regular maintenance of their vehicles, comply with road safety regulations and exercise caution when travelling on major highways.
LASEMA also called on residents to report emergencies immediately through the toll-free 767 or 112 emergency lines.
