The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has attributed the fall of a fully loaded 40-foot container at the Anthony inward Obanikoro corridor to reckless driving by the truck driver.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Head, Public Affairs (LASEMA) Afolabi Olawale, the agency said its Eagle Base Light Response Team was activated after reports of a fallen container obstructing the carriageway.
The statement reads in part, “LASEMA confirms that there was no loss of life and no injury sustained as a result of the incident.
“Upon arrival, LASEMA operatives, in collaboration with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, and the Nigeria Police Force, immediately implemented traffic management and crowd control measures to ease vehicular buildup in the axis. The affected section was cordoned off to ensure public safety while recovery arrangements were activated.
“A private crane has been mobilized to the site to commence swift recovery and clearance of the container. Recovery operations are currently ongoing, and the corridor will be fully reopened to traffic upon completion.
“LASEMA urges all truck and articulated vehicle operators to adhere strictly to safe driving practices, speed limits, and vehicle roadworthiness standards to prevent avoidable incidents on Lagos roads.
The Agency remains committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the State.”
