The Association of Resident Doctors, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH-ARD), has suspended its industrial action after reaching agreements with the Lagos State Government on the resolution of outstanding welfare and salary-related issues.
The strike, which began on September 11, 2026, was suspended following high-level deliberations led by the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, alongside state health and civil service executives.
Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, disclosed the development in a statement posted on X on Friday.
According to Abayomi, the Deputy Governor reaffirmed commitments made by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu during consultations with the Medical Guild and LASUTH-ARD in July.
The parties agreed on late November 2026 as the final implementation target for outstanding issues, allowing time for administrative verification and other processes.
On promotion and advancement arrears, the LASUTH management and State Treasury Office are finalising record reviews, with payments expected alongside the October 2026 salary cycle.
The state government also said a policy memo on the specialist allowance for officers on Grade Level 14 and senior registrars had been forwarded by the Ministry of Health to the Ministry of Establishments and Training for executive approval.
It added that outstanding July 2026 arrears under the revised Professional Allowance Table had already been paid alongside September salaries on September 23.
The government further clarified that official Lagos State Government payslips remain the authoritative itemised reference for determining salary components.
Abayomi said the state government appreciated the LASUTH-ARD leadership for choosing dialogue in resolving the dispute and protecting access to public healthcare.
The government also reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of medical workers and strengthening the state’s healthcare system.
