A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Audu Mustapha Ganga, representing Magumeri Federal Constituency, has made an emotional appeal to his constituents to support his bid for a fifth term in office.
Ganga, who has served in the lower chamber for 16 years, was seen in a viral video shedding tears as he urged voters to renew his mandate.
In his plea, the lawmaker reflected on his humble beginnings and highlighted his efforts while in office. He assured constituents that he would deliver improved representation if given another opportunity.
“I come from a poor background, but I have done my best for you. If re-elected, I promise to do even more,” he said.
His appeal comes amid growing political competition, with at least six aspirants reportedly purchasing nomination and expression of interest forms to challenge his seat.
The emotional video has sparked mixed reactions among constituents and observers. While some criticised his approach, others defended his record and described his display of emotion as genuine.
One resident, Abubakar Hassan, questioned the sincerity of the appeal, suggesting it came too late. Another, Mu’azu Hassan, remarked on the difficulties of leadership and personal responsibility.
However, Lawan Modu praised the lawmaker’s contributions, citing empowerment programmes and job creation initiatives, adding that showing emotion should not be seen as weakness.
In contrast, Muhammad Abba Kura dismissed the display as insincere, describing it as “crocodile tears.”
The development has added a dramatic twist to the political contest in the constituency as the race for the seat intensifies.
