Senator Shehu Sani, a former federal lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central, has expressed concerns over how Nigerian youths are not actively engaging in politics but instead prefer to focus on social media, news.ng reports.
In a post on X on Sunday morning, the Kaduna politician, who painted a gloomy picture of how Nigerian youths are gradually neglecting political participation, claimed that instead of mobilising to sponsor young political figures in society, the youths would rather donate money to old political figures who have failed them.
He said, “Why are the youths not contributing money to buy forms for the members of their generation to contest elections, but prefer to buy forms for the political elites ‘that failed their generation’. Why not transform their Social Media energy to Political Energy.”
The former lawmaker, who recently indicated his intention to return to the Senate on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), urged the younger generation to take advantage of the ‘Not Too Young to Run Act’, which enables persons to contest elective positions from the age of 30.
“Why are they not taking advantage of the opportunity provided by the NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN ACT?,” he added.
