The Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the elevation of 68 legal practitioners to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
The decision was taken at the committee’s 174th plenary session held on Thursday under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun.
The SAN rank is Nigeria’s highest professional distinction for lawyers and is awarded to practitioners who have demonstrated outstanding excellence either as courtroom advocates or as academics who have made significant contributions to legal scholarship.
The LPPC said all successful applicants must attend and successfully complete a mandatory pre-swearing-in induction programme before the rank can be formally conferred. The date for the induction will be announced later.
The committee also reminded the successful candidates that, in line with the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Guidelines and the 2023 Rules of Professional Conduct, they are prohibited from publishing or encouraging congratulatory messages or goodwill notices relating to their nomination or conferment.
It warned that any violation of the provisions could attract sanctions.
The swearing-in ceremony for the 68 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria is scheduled for Monday, October 12, 2026.
