The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has urged Nigerian pilgrims embarking on the 2026 Hajj to uphold discipline, patience and exemplary conduct as ambassadors of the country.
The appeal was contained in a statement issued by her Special Assistant on Media, Austine Elemue, following the inaugural flight and official flag-off of the Hajj exercise at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on May 3.
Mahmoud, in the statement described the commencement of the operation as “both a logistical milestone and a deeply spiritual moment,” noting that it marks the beginning of a sacred journey for thousands of Nigerians who have answered the divine call to perform one of the fundamental pillars of Islam.
According to the statement, “Hajj symbolizes faith, sacrifice, unity, and total submission to the will of Almighty Allah.
The minister therefore urged the pilgrims to conduct themselves in accordance with the laws and customs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, adding that their behaviour abroad would reflect the image of Nigeria on the global stage.
She encouraged the intending pilgrims “to embrace the virtues of devotion, humility, and peace throughout the pilgrimage.”
Mahmoud also commended the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, its Chairman and CEO, Ismail Abba Yusuf, the FCTA, aviation authorities and other stakeholders “for their dedication to ensuring a smooth and well-coordinated Hajj operation.”
She expressed confidence in the level of preparedness demonstrated by all agencies involved, saying it reflects a strong commitment to the welfare, safety and comfort of the pilgrims.
She added that sustained collaboration among stakeholders would ensure a successful and hitch-free exercise.
