The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced that whistleblowers who provide credible information leading to the recovery of stolen Nigerian assets could receive between 2.5% and 5% of the recovered assets.
EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, made this known while encouraging Nigerians with useful information about stolen assets or wanted individuals linked to financial crimes to come forward.
Olukoyede assured potential whistleblowers of protection and said the incentive was introduced to encourage more people to assist the commission in tracing and recovering assets taken anywhere in the world.
The announcement, however, sparked mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians questioning the percentage offered and raising concerns about the safety and treatment of whistleblowers.
