A Nigerian woman has sparked widespread online debate after a video of her angrily speaking against financial expectations placed on church members by religious leaders went viral.
In the trending clip, the visibly emotional woman addressed pastors, bishops, and reverend fathers, urging them to acquire vocational skills instead of depending heavily on offerings and contributions from congregants.
Speaking in Pidgin English, she lamented what she described as continuous financial pressure on church members.
She said: “Na beg I dey beg, Reverend Fathers, Bishops, Pastors, make una go learn work, my knees are on the ground, make una go learn work. Na beg I dey beg, make una go learn work oooh. We don tire. Church contribution, cathedral this, cathedral that, make una go learn work.”
She also accused some church leaders of excessive spending, suggesting that their lifestyles go beyond what is expected of ordinary citizens.
“You no say una don dey spend money too much pass normal man. All this church leaders, na him make women them dey rush come una side.”
The woman further advised clerics to consider learning trades or starting businesses to sustain themselves financially.
“Make una try learn work even if tailor, vulcanizer, anything, importer, exporter, make una go learn work. Open shop make una dey from una shop spend money, we don tire.”
The video has since triggered mixed reactions across social media, with many users divided over her comments. While some agreed with her views, saying churches should prioritise community welfare over frequent fundraising, others defended religious institutions and their financial needs.
