…Vows Safe Return Of Abducted Teachers, Pupils
The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Friday, ordered a restriction on motorcycle operations across the state as part of efforts to tackle worsening insecurity.
The directive, contained in an Executive Order issued by the governor, bars the movement of motorcycles between 10:30pm and 5:30am daily.
Makinde said the measure became necessary in response to ongoing security concerns, particularly the abduction of teachers and schoolchildren in parts of the state.
He assured residents that his administration would not relent until all kidnapped victims are rescued and reunited with their families.
“Every single day that our people remain in captivity is a painful one, not just for their families, but for all of us as a state,” the governor said.
Makinde noted that security agencies were working round the clock to secure the release of the victims, stressing that their safe return remained a top priority for his government.
He, however, explained that details of ongoing operations could not be made public due to their sensitive nature.
“We may not be able to disclose every step being taken because of the sensitive nature of the operations involved, but I ask our people not to mistake our silence for inaction. A great deal of work is being done behind the scenes,” he added.
The governor reiterated that the abducted persons had not been forgotten, assuring residents that the state government remained fully committed to ending the security challenges.
The restriction is expected to affect commercial motorcycle operators, popularly known as okada riders, who are a major means of transportation, especially at night.
Residents have, however, been urged to comply with the directive and cooperate with security agencies as the government intensifies efforts to restore safety across the state.
