The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Abdullahi Gambo, over alleged armed robbery and grievous assault on a commercial motorcyclist along the Gada Maiwa–Zakara Road in Ningi Local Government Area of the state.
The incident was said to have occurred on May 11, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m. The suspect, said to be from Kanaka Village in Ganjuwa Local Government Area, allegedly attacked the commercial motorcyclist with a stick and struck him on the head during the operation.
A statement by the Spokesman of the State Police Command, Nafiu Habib said the victim sustained varying degrees of injuries and was rushed to a medical facility, where he is currently responding to treatment.
The Command disclosed that the suspect fled the scene with the victim’s motorcycle after the attack. However, operatives attached to the Ningi Division, in collaboration with local residents, pursued and apprehended him shortly after the incident, while the stolen motorcycle was also recovered.
The police further stated that the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation and is currently in custody assisting investigators.
The case is being processed for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the act , reaffirming the Command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities across the state.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies for swift action.
