Mr Pam Joshua, a 24-year-old resident of Bwari, who was recently arrested for circulating a fake video clip purporting a Boko Haram operation in the Federal Capital Territory, has been remanded in the Kuje correctional centre.
DAILY POST reports that Pam, a TikToker, had allegedly generated a gunshot sound, which he superimposed on a video of a location within the territory, claiming that terrorists infiltrated the city and were attacking residents.
Upon arrest, the suspect confessed to the crime, stating that his main motive was to gain more followers on his social media accounts.
Giving an update on Tuesday, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, said Pam was arraigned before a “competent court of law for Injurious Falsehood and Breach of Public Peace”.
The CP said the suspect has been “remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre pending trial”.
He warned that “publication of falsehood or the dissemination of unverified content aimed at causing panic and fear among the general public remains a criminal offence and counterproductive to our collective effort of securing the Federal Capital Territory.
“I therefore enjoin all content creators and members of the public to always verify security-related information with the FCT Police Command or other relevant security agencies”.
The commissioner reiterated that the nation’s capital is safe, stating that there is no sign of any security threat within the city.
