Manchester City maintained their perfect start to the Premier League season with a 5-3 victory over Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
The result gave City five wins from five matches and a three-point lead at the top of the table.
Enzo Fernandez opened the scoring after nine minutes, curling a free-kick into the near post for his first goal since his £125m move from Chelsea.
Sunderland responded when Enzo Le Fee found Brian Brobbey, who slipped the ball past Gianluigi Donnarumma to make it 1-1.
City regained the lead after Sunderland were caught playing out from the back, with Rayan Cherki finishing into the bottom corner.
The visitors levelled again when Le Fee played Thomas Meunier through and the defender squared for Brobbey to score into an empty net.
After a VAR check, the goal stood.
City restored their advantage two minutes before half-time when Antoine Semenyo fired into the net after Sunderland failed to clear a cross from the right.
Semenyo struck again early in the second half, drilling a left-footed effort into the far corner to put City 4-2 ahead.
Sunderland responded two minutes later as Nilson Angulo’s cross found Brobbey, who bundled the ball home to complete his hat-trick.
The goal made Brobbey the first Sunderland player since Jermain Defoe in 2016 to score three times in a Premier League match.
Sunderland continued to threaten an equaliser, with City surviving after Donnarumma failed to claim a high ball into the box. Ruben Dias then cleared the ball off the line.
City sealed the win nine minutes from time when Erling Haaland converted Josko Gvardiol’s cross at the back post.
The goal was initially ruled offside before VAR overturned the decision.
Haaland has now scored against every Premier League side he has faced.
Meanwhile, Liverpool defeated Bournemouth 1-0 at Vitality Stadium, with Alexander Isak scoring the only goal.
Isak struck in the 57th minute after Cody Gakpo’s run ended with a cross that Bournemouth failed to clear.
The victory marked Andoni Iraola’s winning return to Bournemouth after leaving the club to become Liverpool manager in the summer.
Bournemouth had gone close through Evanilson in the first half, but Alisson saved his flicked effort.
Liverpool also threatened through Florian Wirtz, Bradley Barcola and Dominik Szoboszlai before Isak broke the deadlock.
Liverpool moved to sixth with nine points from six matches, while Bournemouth remained on three points from five games and dropped to 17th.
