Many people have reportedly died following a collision between two trucks by the Ovia River along the Lagos-Benin Expressway in Edo State.
One of the trucks was laden with crates of drinks, while the other carried glasses.
It was learnt that the trucks were driving in opposite directions at very high speed when the head-on collision occurred.
The drivers, their motor boys and other persons doing business along the road died immediately after the accident.
The incident has caused a serious gridlock along the road as passengers are currently stranded and trapped on the road.
Passengers who spoke with DAILY POST expressed sadness over the deplorable state of the road, saying it added to the increased cost of transportation and caused delays to their movements as well as killing their businesses.
A driver simply identified as Emmanuel said that after every journey, he visits the mechanic workshop and spends a lot of money to fix his vehicle before entering the road again.
He claimed that the state of the road was affecting him and his business.
Olaoluwa, a passenger travelling from Lagos to Warri, Delta State, said he has been trapped in the gridlock for three days running.
“Instead of the politicians helping the citizens by constructing the road and providing them with the basic amenities, including security, they are busy campaigning and toiling with the emotions of citizens,” he lamented.
Other passengers who also bared their minds on the state of the road urged President Bola Tinubu to help Nigerians, especially drivers and passengers, put the road in good shape.
