May Agbamuche Becomes Acting INEC Chairman As Mahmood Yakubu Steps Aside

The National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has formally handed over the leadership of the Commission to May Agbamuche, who will now serve as the Acting National Chairman.

The development followed Professor Yakubu’s decision to proceed on terminal leave ahead of the expiration of his tenure.

The formal handover took place on Tuesday at the INEC headquarters in Abuja during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs).

Agbamuche, who is the oldest serving National Commissioner in the electoral body, will oversee the affairs of the Commission pending the appointment of a substantive chairman.

While announcing the transition, Professor Yakubu urged Commissioners, Directors, and staff of the Commission to extend their full cooperation and support to Agbamuche to ensure continuity and stability in INEC’s operations.
