Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Kingsley Moghalu, has rejected his inclusion in former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential campaign policy team.
According to Moghalu, he neither accepted nor was consulted before his name was announced.
Moghalu, in a statement issued via X, said he was surprised to see his name listed by the Atiku Abubakar and African Democratic Congress (ADC) campaign as a member of the former VP’s policy team.
“I am surprised to see a statement from the Atiku Abubakar and African Democratic Congress (ADC) campaign team including my name as a member of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s policy team for the 2027 presidential campaign,” he said.
“I was not consulted and did not give my consent to my name being published as a member of the ADC candidate’s policy team.
“I am NOT, in fact, a member of Atiku’s policy team, even unofficially or in any advisory capacity.”
Moghalu also restated that he had left partisan politics four years ago and intended to remain outside party politics.
“I have quit partisan politics in Nigeria since 2022. I have maintained, and continue to maintain, my non-partisan posture in our country’s national affairs. I am not a member or sympathizer of any political party in Nigeria,” he stated.
He said his current work is focused on public policy and geopolitical risk advisory and not political campaigns.
“I remain committed to my country, Nigeria and its progress, but such commitment does not have to entail ANY partisan alignment. I have adopted the path of statesmanship, not partisanship,” Moghalu added.
His response came shortly after the ADC unveiled its national l campaign council and presidential campaign management committee for Atiku’s 2027 presidential bid.
In the campaign structure, Moghalu was listed as one of the members expected to contribute economic, financial-sector and public policy expertise to the campaign’s policy architecture.
The policy team is headed by economist and banker Mohammed Hayatudeen, with Professor Mohammed Sagagi as Deputy Chairman and Aare Aremijoye as Secretary.
The campaign structure also named Kashim Ibrahim-Imam as Chairman of the National Campaign Council, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as Deputy Chairman, and Senator Austin Akobundu as Director-General and Campaign Manager.
